WHAT IS A GOLF HANDICAP?

A golf handicap is a numerical figure that represents your playing ability in comparison to others. A handicap provides you with the ability to compete in competitions on a ‘level playing field’. It allows golfers of all abilities the opportunity to compete against one another in a way that makes the game all competitive and challenging for all skill levels.

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR A HANDICAP?

It this is the first time you're applying for a handicap, the process is simple.

  1. You need to play three 18-hole rounds, six 9-hole rounds or a combination of 18-hole and 9-hole rounds to complete a total of 54 holes so that your official handicap can be calculated. IMPORTANT: Before you play, contact the Pro Shop to nominate your handicap round.

  2. Each handicap round must be played with a golfer who has a current handicap and who is able to sign your scorecard as proof of your score.

  3. At the end of each handicap round, give the Pro Shop your completed scorecard so that your score can be entered into the GOLF Link system. If the Pro Shop refers you back to Piranha Golf Club to administer your score, email  a copy of your scorecard to info@piranhagolfclub.com with the following details:

  • date of play

  • the name of the golf course where the handicap round was played

  • the  colour of the tee markers used (e.g. Mens - White, Ladies - Red)

Your GOLF Link record will be updated with your scores and an official Golf Australia handicap will be calculated once 54 holes have been completed and the scores have been lodged. Until you have completed 54 holes and received your official Golf Australia handicap, you will be given a Temporary Daily Handicap of 45 for women and 36 for men. Please note that if you enter a club competition using the Temporary Daily Handicap, you will not be eligible to win a prize. The Temporary Daily Handicap is intended to be a guide to determine when you should pick your ball up during play, until your official handicap is determined.

If you have previously had a handicap through another golf club, Golf Australia may contact you to re-establish your handicap.
